Is Bali the cheapest place in the world for Luxury travel right now?

Luxury hotels in Bali currently start at 15 Euros per night!! As an experiment, I booked that room to find out how good such a cheapest place be. Is it worth traveling to Bali right now? Is Bali even open?

Find out in this article. I booked the Bali Beach garden hotel in Kuta for a weekend trip. The rate was incredibly low at 15 Euros. I was not expecting much but thought it would be an interesting experience.

Review of the Bali beach garden hotel: Spending a night in the cheapest place / beachfront hotel in Bali for 15 euros

The Bali Beach Garden hotel is an older-style hotel located in a large garden by the beach.

The rooms are arranged in three floors of buildings across the garden. It has three pools, one of them beachfront and a gym.

Despite pricing its rooms at 15 euros per night, the hotel looked very empty, and we had the main pool to ourselves with over 50 lounge chairs to choose from. Mattresses could be requested to cover the lounge chairs, but those had seen better days.

Tip: You can’t get a beach towel at the pool, so make sure you get them at the reception when you check-in.

The pool looked super clean.

The staff seemed genuinely happy to see us. The service was fast, friendly, and efficient.

Review of the rooms at Bali Beach Garden

I stayed in room 280. It was very near reception and had a balcony overlooking a small pond and a beautiful garden.

Because the room is set back from the beach, it was incredibly quiet. All I could hear was the birds singing.

The value for money is incredible. The room had been recently repainted and has quality furniture. The AC is an individual unit, which I prefer for Covid prevention reasons, as the air doesn’t circulate from room to room.

Amenities like tea, coffee, shampoo, and soap were even provided.

I have stayed in 300 USD rooms in the US or Europe that were less comfortable than the Bali Beach Garden room.

I slept very well.

Discovering a quiet and peaceful Kuta during Covid

I had always been warned against going to Kuta. It is a Bali center for packaged tours and backpackers and is usually crowded and loud.

During Covid, however, there are no tour buses or tourists. Some places in Bali, like Canggu or Ubud, are starting to get busy again with Indonesian tourists. They are avoiding Kuta, and the place looks like a ghost town with most shops and restaurants closed.

Kuta beach is, however, one of the nicest beaches in Bali. It is wide, and has golden sand and gently rolling waves. Unlike the beaches in Canggu and North Semyniak, it is a great beach to swim in. Without the thousands of tourists in tank tops, the beach is now very pleasant.

Most of the beachfront hotels and restaurants are open. They are mostly empty and, therefore, it’s easy to get a table with a view for sunset drinks or dinner. Food and drinks are affordable and more than half the price of what you’d find in the trendier hotels three kilometers north.

I never thought I would say this, but if you want peace, head over to Kuta.

The hotel’s promotion prices are cheap. It is probably the cheapest hotel price in Bali at the moment, and you will be treated like a king. Kuta beach is the best-kept secret in Bali at the moment! and the sunsets are still stunning!

Other great hotel deals for traveling in Bali during Covid.

The Bali Beach Garden was the cheapest luxury beachfront hotel available when I booked, but plenty of other deals were available from 15 to 35 euros.

If you are willing to spend more, check out the Sofitel Nusa Dua. They are currently offering rates from 65 euros per night. You can read my review of the Sofitel Nusa Dua here and check the prices here.

And if it is a private villa you are after, Bali will satisfy you too. You can get a three-bedroom beachfront villa with a private pool for about 60 euros per night. Check out this villa!

How to enter Bali at the moment?

Bali is slowly reopening to tourism. It is currently possible to enter Indonesia via Jakarta with a business visa, where one has to do a 2 night/3 day quarantine. I did my quarantine at the Mulia hotel Jakarta, and you can read my experience entering Indonesia and my review here.

It is, however, hoped that flights to Bali will resume in December, and tourists will be able to do the two nights quarantine in Bali.

Update: Due to the Omicron variant, Indonesia has changed quarantine to 7 days so please keep checking to ensure you get the latest info.

The Garuda website is usually up to date and is my go-to website to find out the latest travel requirements.

Another helpful website is the Bali Covid update group on Facebook.

A visa agent can help you secure the visa you need to enter Indonesia. Please use a reliable one, as many unscrupulous visa agents have been overcharging and not delivering the promised visas.

It is an incredible time to be in Bali right now. Beyond the great deals and discounted prices available, the Balinese people are genuinely looking forward to the return of tourists and will make your trip even more special.

If you are traveling to Bali, read my articles about the Six Senses Uluwatu resort, visiting East Bali, visiting central Bali, and the best restaurants in Ubud.

And if you have more time and want to escape for a few days, check out  North Bali. Few tourists make it to north Bali, but it is delightful, where waterfalls, volcanos, and dolphins await the more adventurous travelers. You can find beachfront private pool villas like villa Seaview.

Welcome back to Bali!!
