Attending the Jakarta Warehouse Festival in Bali

I had the pleasure of attending the Jakarta Warehouse Project festival at the iconic Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) in Bali recently, and I must say, it was an unforgettable festival with music, lights, and a fantastic atmosphere.

The GWK park is the venue of the DWP festival

The venue, with its majestic backdrop of the Garuda Wisnu statue, provided a stunning setting for the event. As the sun set and the lights illuminated the venue, there was an immediate sense of magic in the air. The organizers did an exceptional job of transforming GWK into a vibrant and lively space. The 3 stages are spread around massive limestone walls. The festival specializes in dance and techno music. Some of the most famous DJs in the world come to Bali for 3 days of party

How to get to GWK Park for the DWP festival?

GWK is located on the main road between Jimbaran and Uluwatu. It is an area that in normal times experiences massive traffic jams so make sure you give yourself ample time to arrive.

The best strategy is to hire a motorbike with the apps Grab or Gojek. They are the Uber equivalent in Indonesia.

I was worried about being able to find a taxi after the festival but I should not have been. Hundreds of motorbikes taxis and car taxis were waiting near the GWK park area.

Tip: if you want to get a car taxi, you are better off walking the 10 minutes to the main street. As we exited the festival, we saw thousands of taxis stuck in traffic trying to get to the festival from the main street.

What to eat and drink at the DWP festival

Food stalls are available at the festival but given the late-night nature of the festival, we decided to eat earlier. There are plenty of good restaurants in Jimbaran. I recommend Cuca, Gourmet Garage for meat, or Sundara at Four Seasons for their seafood BBQ. The Bingin area is another place with many great restaurants if you are coming from the South.

Drinks were easily available during the festival. We rarely had to queue to get a drink which is a testimony to the good organisation of the festival. Unfortunately, only Heineken beers were served. They cost 100000 for 1 beer and 150000 for 2 beers. They would be served in a plastic bag with ice which is great to keep your beer cold but is a disaster for the environment. Drinking water was also sold in tiny plastic bottles and I wish the festival organisers would pay more attention to plastic waste.

DWP festival organisation

The line-up for the festival was nothing short of spectacular. From local talents to international headliners, the diverse array of artists kept the energy high throughout the event. Davide Guetta and DJ Snake got everyone dancing.

One of the standout features of the event was the seamless organization. Despite the large crowd, the logistics were well-handled, from ticketing and security to amenities and food stalls. It was evident that the organizers had taken great care to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for the attendees.

The only area that was lacking was the toilet. There simply were not enough and the queue could be up to 30 minutes

Tip: There are some toilets at the right of the entrance and I often found it faster to get out of the festival to use them than to queue behind hundreds of people for the general toilet

David Guetta closed the festival with style

From the moment Guetta took the stage, the atmosphere was charged with anticipation. The crowd, a diverse sea of music enthusiasts, was instantly captivated by the infectious energy emanating from the stage. The festival grounds transformed into a collective dance floor, and Guetta wasted no time in orchestrating a sonic journey that would leave an indelible mark.

Guetta’s mastery of the mix was evident in every transition, flawlessly blending tracks that spanned his career. The setlist was a dynamic fusion of his classic hits and the latest chart-toppers, creating an electrifying progression that kept the audience on their toes. Each drop was met with roars of approval, and the sheer energy reverberating through the crowd was a testament to the DJ’s ability to connect with his fans.

As the night reached its peak, culminating in an anthemic finale, it was evident that David Guetta had once again proven why he is a stalwart in the electronic music scene and it was a grand finale for the DWP festival.

The crowd itself added to the overall positive vibe of the event. The vast majority of the crowd was from Indonesia and they are an awesome public. They came together to celebrate music and art, created a sense of unity, and shared joy. The atmosphere was friendly despite the large size of the festival.

In Conclusion of my review of the DWP festival in Bali

The DWP is one of the biggest dance music festivals in Southeast Asia and is well worth attending. The positive atmosphere, awesome crowd, great line-up, and flawless organization make for a pleasant weekend. Given that it starts late at night, it gives you the rest of the day to explore Bali.
