Reservations are open at Amanvari, an 18-casita resort on the East Cape of Baja California Sur — Aman’s Mexico debut, an hour from the Los Cabos everyone knows.
Most travellers landing at Los Cabos International turn south-west, toward the resort corridor’s beach clubs and nightlife. Aman turned the other way. Amanvari, the group’s first Mexican resort, opened on 1 August 2026 on the East Cape — the undeveloped side of the peninsula, where the Sierra de la Laguna desert runs into one of the region’s few swimmable stretches of the Sea of Cortez.
The resort sits inside Costa Palmas, a 1,500-acre private community that already holds a Four Seasons, a deep-water marina and yacht club, a Robert Trent Jones II golf course, 18 acres of organic farms and orchards, and three miles of swimmable beachfront. It’s a beach-resort opening, but the real story is underwater — more on that below.

Why the East Cape, Not the Corridor
At 18 keys, Amanvari is intimate even by Aman standards — Amangiri in Utah runs 34 suites. Until now, ultra-luxury on the East Cape meant renting a private villa; this is the area’s first true resort at that level. The trade-off is honest: the same seasonal winds that make the East Cape a world-class kite-surfing coast make it a less obvious pick for travellers who want guaranteed flat-calm beach days. The smart itinerary pairs a few restorative East Cape days with Los Cabos proper for restaurants and energy.
The Diving Case: Cabo Pulmo
Here’s the detail that puts Amanvari on my map. South of the resort lies Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park, a UNESCO-listed reserve protecting a 20,000-year-old reef — one of the great community-led conservation successes anywhere, transformed since local families gave up fishing for marine tourism in the 1990s. It now holds 800-plus species: the famous tornado-schools of bigeye jack, resident bull sharks, mantas, turtles. Amanvari runs dive excursions there, alongside Sea of Cortez sport fishing and Sierra de la Laguna off-road trips.
The Sea of Cortez is also one of the world’s reliable whale shark destinations — the La Paz season runs roughly October to April, an easy add-on from the East Cape. The SJD–Costa Palmas road is improving but partly unpaved. After a long-haul arrival, book the resort transfer rather than self-driving in the dark.
What’s Next for Aman in the Americas
Amanvari is the opening move in a bigger American push: Aman Miami Beach, Aman Beverly Hills, Amancaya in the Bahamas’ Exuma islands and Amansanu in Texas Hill Country are all in the pipeline behind it. Announcing the opening, Aman Group chairman Vlad Doronin said Amanvari “establishes a new benchmark for hospitality on Baja’s East Cape” — the kind of claim this site only ever tests in person.
How Much Does Amanvari Cost?
Opening rates start at around US$3,000 per night for a casita — and the inclusions matter: breakfast, non-motorised water sports, bicycles and a daily guided wellness activity are in the rate, which is unusual for Aman and worth factoring into any comparison with the Four Seasons next door. Being among the first guests of an Aman opening season has its own appeal: full staffing, everything new, and pre-reputation availability.
