How to get there to Koh Jum beach villas

Kho Jum is about 1 hour from Krabi Airport
There are 2 options to get to Koh Jum.
Option 1: You can either drive for 45 minutes to Pier Luem Krat. Then take a local private boat that takes 30 minutes. The hotel can arrange this trip for you.
Option 2: you can take the public ferry from Krabi town or even from Phuket town. That ferry departs once a day in high season only.
I choose option 2 as I wanted to explore Krabi town and Raleigh beach. Krabi is a very lovely stop-over for a night or 2. The town is friendly. The river quite scenic and there is a beautiful bat cave to explore

The ferry was basic but pleasant. It drops you on the beach at the hotel next door to the Kho Jum beach villa.
I had arranged for Koh Jum beach villa to pick me up from there, but they never arrived. So after waiting 20 minutes, I decided to walk the 10 minutes on the beach. But with my bags, it was hot and unpleasant…
After my quite disastrous arrival, I was quickly shown to my villa. The staff greeted me with cold towels and drinks.

Review of the villa at Koh Jum beach villas

I had booked villa Baan Ton Sai, a 2 bedroom beachfront villa.
The villa is large and pleasantly decorated. What makes it very special is the 20-30 meters wide of beachfront garden with a pool.
The garden is overlooking a beautiful beach that is almost deserted. There are not so many places in Thailand where you can still find peace and serenity.
I would alternate my days between the private pool and the lounge chairs in the garden near the beach.

The rooms are very open which is great for people who like an ocean breeze and don’t want to use air-conditioning. The glass walls can also be closed if you prefer to use Air-conditioning.
Due to the open and tropical nature of the villa, there were a lot of insects in the room. The mosquito need was well needed.

TIP: there are many sandflies on the beach, and I got bitten a lot. And the bites are really itchy!!. I heard ( too late) that applying coconut oil repeals the sandfly. You can buy coconut oil in most minimarts in Thailand.

My villa had all the expected amenities including an equipped kitchen. Great for people who want to cook while on vacation. The kitchen has everything you need including a fridge, freezer, cooker, sink, toaster, kettle, etc.

You get free recycled bottled water in your room stocked up every day along with milk and proper ground coffee. You can also refill those water bottles at many eco-friendly refill stations all over Koh Jum.
The bathroom is both indoor and outdoor. The 2 outdoors showers allowing a couple to shower at the same time is a nice touch.

TIP: the second bedroom of the 2 bedrooms villa is really a bed in the living room and kitchen. So if you need 2 real bedrooms and don’t want anyone sleeping in the living room, it might be better to book a 3 bedroom villa.

Every day, a group of many ladies come and clean the villas and pool. In the evening they go and do a turndown service. It includes lighting the anti-mosquito pots and ensuring the rooms and doors are closed for the evening. The great thing about that is that the villa servicing goes very quick for you to enjoy the peaceful setting.

TIP: The Wifi is via a separate mobile phone in the villa with a hotspot utilizing the local cellular network. It is not very fast, and in the evening it gets quite slow. It also kept running down.
I had bought a sim card with a data plan at the airport. The wifi on my phone was better than the hotel. So if you need wifi, buy your own sim card.
Koh Jum beach villas is a property with 18 villas from 1 to 5 bedrooms. Many of the villas have their own private pool. The beachfront villas are all highly recommended. Worth noting that some of the 1 bedrooms villa’s are very close to each other and therefore enjoy a bit less privacy.

The food at Koh Jum beach villas

There is a restaurant by the public pool of the hotel.
The food was excellent quality and well priced for a luxury hotel. I loved going for early dinner and watched the sunset while sipping my beer.
The menu included a mix of Thai food and western food. Every day, they offered a theme night and different unique dishes.
I tried a few of the other restaurants nearby on the beach, and the food was not as good. So I ended up eating at Koh Jum Beach Villa most of the time.
The one exception is the Friendly restaurant. As their name indicates, the people were friendly and the food excellent. To get there. Walk on the beach to the left until you pass the spa. After the spa turn left and walk on the road for about 5 minutes. The friendly restaurant will be on your right side.

Review of the resort at Koh Jum beach villas

Most villas have their own private pool. For those who don’t, there is also a public pool at the center of the resort near the restaurant.

The restaurant has an excellent library where a found a few interesting books to keep me occupied while lounging on the beach.
The hotel also provides complimentary bikes rental and masks and snorkels.

Koh Jum beach villa is by far the most delightful resort on the island.

The Beach outside the villa is stunning at sunset. It is covered by black volcanic rock that enhances the landscape.

TIP: Due to all the rocks on the beach, you can only swim at high tide, so you need to time your sea swimming time. There is less rock by the beach if you walk up past the restaurant towards the last villas.

Activities in Koh Jum island and beyond

Koh Jum island with its splendid beaches and quiet atmosphere has been largely left untouched and sees few tourists
They only got electricity from the mainland 8 years ago, and this assisted transform the island.

The northern part of the island is referred to as “Ko Pu” whereas the southern region, and therefore the actual name of the island itself is named Koh Jum.
There are 3 villages on the island. All three are small sleepy fishing villages. They welcome visitors and have a few restaurants, shops and tours operations. The locals are really friendly and always willing to help.

It is also possible to borrow a bicycle from the hotel to ride to one of the villages. The ride takes about 20 minutes to the first village. It is not too steep, but a bit hilly so expect to be hot if you do it during the mid-day sun
You can see many long tails fishing boat along the coast.
If you go inland, there is a rainforest that can be explored in a day or half a day hike. To spot the wildlife, it is best to hire an experienced guide. He can also take you through the mangrove that line up the coastal areas. The best way to explore the mangrove is to hire a boat. Two hours is more than enough time to explore the mangroves.TIP: Make sure you cover up with mosquito repellent

Once you have explored Koh Jum, the Koh Phi Phi national park is within 1-hour boat ride. It is an excellent place for snorkeling. Maya Bay has made the news recently as they closed it to tourist to promote conservation. The results have been outstanding as sharks have started to come back to the bay

Conclusion

I would highly suggest staying at Koh Jum beach Villa if you are looking for a peaceful resting place. If you want the luxury of your own pool and villa right on the beach, good food, in a secluded part of Thailand, this is the place to go. If you’re a party animal or like the animation of pubs and clubs, then this isn’t the spot for you!
Enjoy your holiday at Koh Jum beach villa!

Man, I must be out of the loop. I had no idea that many places in Thailand had been taken over by tourism… I guess things have changed a lot since the 90s. Koh Jum looks amazing and serene. The food at Friendly restaurant sounds good… the photos of the food you posted look divine 😀
