Two Eras of Seminyak, Side by Side
The Double Six is Seminyak now: fun, loud, and unapologetic about it — a contemporary, suite-led hotel rising over the beach at the lively end of the strip, with a rooftop that has become a destination in its own right for sunset. I called my stay there the best suite in Seminyak for a reason: the rooms are the headline act, generous and modern with amazing sea views, and the stunning pool below is exactly the stage the scene deserves. Everything Seminyak is famous for starts at the lobby door — and that cuts both ways. The main disadvantage is the row of beach bars directly in front of the hotel, which start blasting music from around 6 PM; they all play different tracks, so what reaches your balcony is a horrible mix of competing soundtracks rather than any one party. If you plan to be out in the evenings anyway, it barely matters; if you dream of quiet sunsets on your balcony, it will. That trade-off is exactly why I rated the whole experience 4/5. The Oberoi is Seminyak then — and gloriously so. This is the stay I rated a full 5/5: one of Bali’s original luxury resorts, traditional and quiet, and somehow closer to the real Bali than anything else on the strip. Beautiful Balinese art fills the property, low buildings and private villas hide in a big, mature tropical garden running down to the beach, and the service belongs to a more gracious era. My honest niggles: the pool looks its age, and some rooms can feel small and old-looking next to Seminyak’s newer builds — charming to some eyes, dated to others. Neither changes the verdict. Choose the Double Six if the suite is the point, if a stunning pool and sea views from your room matter, and if you want Seminyak’s restaurants, beach clubs, and sunsets within stumbling distance — fun and loud is a feature here, not a flaw — though know the evening bar noise below means this is not the hotel for quiet nights in on the balcony. Choose The Oberoi if you want the beach without the buzz, Balinese art and a big garden instead of rooftops, and the quiet, traditional Bali that earned my 5/5 — accepting that the pool and some of the rooms show their age. They solve different Seminyak trips: the same street, two completely different holidays, and if forced to pick one, my rating already told you my answer.
