For decades, luxury in Mallorca meant three names: Cap Rocat’s fortress, the St. Regis Mardavall, Belmond’s La Residencia up in Deià. This summer a fourth arrived on one of the island’s best-known headlands. Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra — the brand’s Balearics debut — occupies the pine-covered point in Calvià, twenty-odd minutes from Palma’s airport and a short drive from the Puerto Portals marina, with something no competitor can copy: exclusive access to two secluded coves.

That ratio is the statement of intent. Nobu Matsuhisa’s Nikkei sushi and Dani García’s contemporary steakhouse would each anchor a hotel on their own; here they share a headland with Mexican, Balearic, tapas and pool venues. The bet is that Punta Negra becomes a dining destination for the Puerto Portals yacht crowd, not just its own guests — which raises the bar, and the average rate, for the whole southwest coast.
Shore or Ship: The Other Way to Do This Coast

A Sea View Room starts from around €2,814 per night, while the Casita — the top category bookable online — runs closer to €3,375, with breakfast, taxes and fees included on both (mid-October midweek, two adults).
