Etihad Business Class Flight Review

This is my review of the Etihad business class flight from Abu Dhabi to Brussels on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Etihad offers affordable business class tickets on routes from Europe to Asia (it was available for 2500 Eur for a return Business class flight). I was eager to see how their business-class product holds up against competitors like Qatar Airways and Singapore Airlines, which can easily cost twice as much. Here’s a detailed look at the entire journey, from the airport experience to the onboard amenities, with some helpful tips along the way.

Checking in at Abu Dhabi Airport

The check-in process for Etihad’s business class is seamless, thanks to a dedicated check-in area exclusively for premium passengers. The staff is efficient, ensuring a swift and stress-free experience. The separate counters ensure minimal waiting time, providing a refined start to your journey.

For travelers looking for a smooth experience, this part of the journey sets a positive tone. If you’re planning a luxury travel experience to Brussels, Etihad’s premium check-in process ensures your trip begins on a high note.

Review of The Etihad business lounge at Abu Dhabi airport

Etihad’s Business Class Lounge in Abu Dhabi Airport is designed to cater to premium travelers, but the experience can feel less exclusive during peak hours. The lounge was very busy, making it difficult to find a comfortable spot. I had to walk the whole area twice to find an empty table. It had just become available and was still dirty.

Surprisingly, the rooftop bar featured a better food selection than the main dining area, with options ranging from Arabic mezze to international dishes.

The  Etihad Lounge offers the essentials, but it falls slightly short of the luxury and exclusivity offered by competitors like Qatar Airways’ Al Mourjan Lounge.

The lounge amenities include showers, a spa, and a business center, though availability can be limited due to high demand. I

Tip: Head to the rooftop bar on the 6th for better culinary options and a full size bar ( including champagne)

Onboard the Etihad Dreamliner plane:  The Seat

Etihad’s business class seat offers an exceptional blend of privacy, comfort, and functionality. The cabin layout follows a 1-2-1 configuration, ensuring that every passenger has direct aisle access. Each seat is designed as a mini-suite, featuring a large touchscreen entertainment system, personal storage compartments, and adjustable lighting.

The seat reclines into a fully flat bed, and Etihad provides a foam top mattress to ensure a restful sleep.

At first, the seat controls seem limited, as you can incline your seat without moving forward.

However, once you discover the small touchscreen near the remote control, you unlock a wide range of settings. You can adjust the firmness, height, and other details, allowing you to customize the seat to your exact preference.

The seat is also great for tall passengers. At 6ft 2, I was able to lie down fully flat, which is not always possible on other airlines’ business class seats. This makes Etihad’s seat a standout for those looking for comfort and flexibility in a luxury travel experience.

My seat, 5H, faced the back of the plane, which felt a bit disorienting, and being close to the galley meant occasional noise disturbances as I could hear the crew and the toilet flushing.

The seat, nevertheless, is one of the most comfortable available in Business class.

Tip: Opt for a front-facing window seat for better privacy, and avoid seats near the galley if you’re sensitive to noise.

Review of the Food onboard Etihad Business class

Dining on Etihad’s business-class flight to Brussels was disappointing and didn’t seem to be a priority for the airline. The menu was limited, especially on the night flight, offering mainly breakfast items. My first choices were unavailable, which was frustrating. I had a mozzarella and pumpkin salad, but the taste was lackluster and uninspiring.

The food quality was below the standard of top business-class competitors like Qatar Airways, Emirates, and Air France, where meals are more varied, flavourful, and thoughtfully presented. The champagne and wines served onboard were underwhelming, not living up to the premium experience expected in business class.

Tip: Have dinner in the lounge before your flight if you want a proper meal

Review of the Service Onboard

The service onboard Etihad’s business class felt less personal than the best-in-class airlines. While the staff was friendly and courteous, the service lacked the proactive attention and personalization you might find on other airlines. The crew didn’t anticipate needs as much.

Everything I requested was brought promptly and efficiently, ensuring that the essentials were covered throughout the flight.

Tip: Don’t hesitate to ask the crew for anything you need – they’re efficient and will fulfill requests quickly.

Review of Etihad Abu Dhabi Complimentary Stopover

Etihad offers a free stopover program in Abu Dhabi, promising a luxury hotel stay. I highly recommend you take advantage of it, as Abu Dhabi is a great place to visit for a day

Hotel choice

Unfortunately, my experience at the Novel Hotel fell short of expectations. The hotel was noisy, had poor soundproofing, and had a far from luxurious experience promised. I would not stay there again. It was, however, clean, and I had a good and warm shower.

Tip: the earlier you book, the more hotel choices you will have. Please note that the free stop-over needs to be booked at the same time as you book your flight on the Etihad website

Tip: even if you are in transit for only 24 hours, you must pick up your bags during the stop-over

What to see in Abu Dhabi?

Despite the disappointing hotel, an Abu Dhabi stopover offers plenty of worthwhile sights if you have a day to spare. The city’s blend of modernity, culture, and stunning architecture makes it a great place to explore during a layover. Here are some must-see attractions:

The Louvre Abu Dhabi is a highlight of any visit. This stunning museum features a vast collection of art and artifacts from across the world. The museum’s iconic dome creates a beautiful “rain of light” effect, and the galleries are curated to showcase the interconnectedness of human history and culture. The entrance fee is 65 Dhs.

The Louvre Abu Dhabi is currently hosting a temporary exhibition titled “Impressionism: Pathways to Modernity,” running until February 2024. This exhibition features an extensive collection of works by renowned painters such as Van Gogh, Monet, Renoir, Degas, and Manet, exploring the revolutionary shift in art during the 19th century. It offers visitors a chance to experience the birth of modern painting through masterpieces that highlight the innovative techniques and themes of the Impressionist movement.

Abu Dhabi is also expanding its cultural landscape with several new museums under construction. The highly anticipated Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, designed by architect Frank Gehry, is set to open by 2025. This contemporary art museum will feature modern masterpieces and cutting-edge exhibitions.

Tip: Check the museum’s website for the latest details on temporary exhibitions to ensure you don’t miss out on these exceptional displays of art and culture. plan at least 2 hours for your visit.

Another essential stop is the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. One of the largest mosques in the world, it is a masterpiece of modern Islamic architecture. The mosque’s gleaming white marble, intricate mosaics, and stunning chandeliers are breathtaking. Entry is free, and visitors are welcome to explore its grandeur and take in the peaceful atmosphere. Don’t forget to check out the reflective pools and the world’s largest hand-knotted carpet inside the prayer hall.

If you have time, head to Qasr Al Watan, the Presidential Palace. It’s a beautiful display of Arabian craftsmanship and offers insights into the UAE’s heritage and governance. The Great Hall, with its intricate architecture and stunning chandeliers, is a sight to behold.

For those who prefer the outdoors, Corniche Beach is a beautiful stretch of coastline perfect for a quick stroll or a relaxing break. The well-maintained promenade offers scenic views of the city skyline and the turquoise waters of the Arabian Gulf.

How to move around in Abu Dhabi?

Getting to and from Abu Dhabi International Airport is hassle-free. A taxi from downtown Abu Dhabi to the airport costs around 80 AED, and you can conveniently pay by credit card. The taxi stand is located right after the airport exit for easy access.

Tip: Uber is also available in Abu Dhabi, though it typically costs about 10% more than a standard taxi.

Getting taxis within Abu Dhabi downtown was equally easy and affordable.

if you’re considering a layover as part of the Etihad free stopover program, navigating Abu Dhabi is easy. This program is an excellent way to break up long-haul flights and explore Abu Dhabi.

The efficiency of Abu Dhabi airport made the stopover very easy.  — I got through immigration and picked up my luggage in less than 15 minutes. The highlight of the stopover was a visit to the Louvre Abu Dhabi, a must-see for those exploring Abu Dhabi. On returning to the airport, check-in,  immigration, and security clearance were equally fast and easy.

In Conclusion of My Etihad Airline Business Class Flight Review

Overall, Etihad’s business-class product offers great value for money. The seat comfort, onboard service, and efficient check-in process make it a reliable choice for luxury travelers. However, the food quality and busy lounge experience feel a step behind the competition. For tall passengers and those seeking a solid business class product, Etihad Airways flight to Brussels remains a worthwhile option, especially at its competitive price point. The complimentary Abu Dhabi stopover program is an added bonus.
