Getting to the St. Regis Singapore

The St. Regis is located at the end of Orchard Road, in a busy and vibrant shopping and business district. It’s a 30-40 minute taxi ride from the airport.

It’s very easy to get a taxi at the airport, or you can use Grab, the Asian equivalent of Uber. A Grab car costs 20-30 Singapore dollars.

The hotel’s location is very central. It is about 10 minutes walk from the Orchard Road shopping area and also walking distance from the botanical garden.

Fun fact: The St Regis recently made the news because North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un stayed there during his summit with Trump.

Check-in at St. Regis Singapore

Check-in at the hotel was very smooth. A porter came to take my bags from the taxi.

The lobby of the St Regis Singapore is grand and relaxing, with wide paintings and floral arrangements.

I was escorted to the check-in desk, where the receptionist greeted me by name and took my passport and credit card.

Within 5 minutes I was in my room, and my luggage was already waiting for me.

When you check-in, pay attention to the silk mural behind the check-in desk. It is a mid-19th-century mural that was acquired by the owner in 2002. He has designed the whole lobby around this mural’s color scheme. It’s a beautiful piece that sets the mood for the hotel.

Review of the Room at the St. Regis Singapore

There are 299 rooms at the St. Regis Singapore hotel.

I stayed in a Grand Deluxe Larger Guest room on the 18th floor. It’s a comfortable room that manages to blend old-world style (think 18th century furniture with mahogany wood) with modern technology.

There is a control center next to the bed for all the lights, automatic curtains, a Bose sound system, high-speed wifi, and other high tech features.

I was greeted by a fruit basket and a plate of macarons. A delicious start to my stay!

The room is very well insulated for sound, and it is an oasis of quiet. The automatic blinds allow you to darken the room completely at the touch of a button. I slept like a baby in the super-comfortable bed.

The bathroom has a comfortable bathtub with a TV. Great for lazy evenings watching a movie! There is also a separate shower. I loved the toiletries from Laboratoire Remède, especially the eucalyptus-scented shower gel. Those are also offered in other St Regis.

It is the St. Regis tradition to provide every guest, even in the smallest rooms, with a butler. The butler can run errands for you, pack or unpack your suitcase, iron your clothes, or bring you tea and coffee. No task is too small.

The Food at St. Regis Singapore

Food is a highlight of any trip to Singapore, and the St. Regis doesn’t disappoint.

I tried two of their restaurants, the Brasserie des Saveurs for Sunday brunch, and Yan Ting.

Brasserie des Saveurs

The St. Regis Sunday brunch is a grand affair. An elegant dining room with a live band playing jazz and blues makes it feel very festive. The music was pleasant, and a few guests took the opportunity to dance.

The brunch is a combination of a luxury buffet and an a la carte menu.

The appetizer buffet will make Europeans craving cheese and cold cuts very happy. It also has a great seafood selection that includes lobster, oyster, crabs, sushi and sashimi, and the usual salad and carvery.

The food quality is what makes this brunch stand out. I have enjoyed many brunches in Asia, and this is some of the best food I’ve ever had. The service is friendly and efficient. Our waiter was enthusiastic and brought so much food to our table that we had to stop him.

The desert also is buffet style. The patissier is great! From macarons to chocolate tart and baba au rhum, there was too much to chose from, and I wish I could have eaten more.

TIP: brunch starts at noon, so it is better to arrive early. We arrived at 13:30 and felt a bit rushed towards the end as they clear the buffets at 3 pm sharp.

You can choose the food-only package, or a package including free-flowing wine, champagne, and other alcoholic drinks.

Breakfast is also served at la Brasserie des Saveurs. It is also very nice, albeit a bit less grand than the brunch. It has live cooking stations with many Asian and Indian options. Eggs and a few other dishes can be ordered from a small menu placed on the table.

Yan Ting restaurant at St. Regis Singapore

Yan Ting is a Cantonese fine dining restaurant, and fine dining it is!

I went to Yan Ting for lunch, and I was surprised to find the place very busy for a mid-week lunchtime.

I was the only non-Asian guest. Most guests seemed to come from China. I always find it a good sign to go to an international restaurant and see that most guests are from the restaurant’s country of origin.

Yan Ting did not disappoint. The food is mouthwatering and extraordinarily diverse. I did the six-course tasting menu. My favorite courses were the pork noodles with wontons and the oxtail soup.

This place is also great for business lunches or dinner. It has private rooms for confidential meetings.

If you are in a hurry, this is the restaurant for you. The speed of service was terrific. I did a six-course menu in a little over 1 hour.

In addition to an extensive a la carte menu for lunch and dinner, Yan Ting has a very popular Weekend Dim Sum Brunch that showcases its award-winning signature dishes. Make sure you reserve a table ahead of time so that you don’t miss out.

Other Restaurants to Try While in Singapore

If you want to eat out of the hotel or want to try something more casual, I recommend Din Tai Fung, a casual Dim Sum place about a 10-minute walk from St. Regis.

Salt Grill and Sky Bar is another great place with a great view not too far from the hotel.

Finally, Singapore is the only place in the world where Michelin stars have been awarded to two street food stalls. We had to queue over 60 minutes to get our dishes, and I was not overly impressed by the food. But If you want to try something different, here are the addresses:

Liao Fan Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle: Chinatown Complex Market & Food Centre, 335 Smith St, Singapore

Hawker Chan: 78 Smith St, Singapore

The St. Regis Singapore Hotel Infrastructure

The St. Regis is an impressive hotel with all the expected high-end facilities.

It has an old-style charm, which is surprising, given that it was built only a little over ten years ago.

The Lobby is grand and boasts an impressive art collection, with artists ranging from Anthony Poon, Georgette Chen, Fernando Botero, Marc Chagall to lithographs from Pablo Picasso.

Cecilia Kwek, the wife of the hotel owner Kwek Leng Beng, was unremitting in her search for art during the hotel’s construction. Over six years, she acquired most of the art that you can now find in the hotel and which is one of the most interesting private art collections in Asia.

Interestingly, the hotel even offers a 45-minute art tour to showcase all the art located in the hotel for in-house guests at 6 pm. The tour is limited to a maximum of 8 persons, so if you love art, be sure to sign up.

The hotel has a small gym. The Fitness Center is open 24 hours and accessible by room key. It is not very big but is sufficiently equipped with cardio machines & strength training equipment.

The pool is pleasant. It is long for a hotel pool and great for doing laps. It is located at the back of the hotel, so it feels very quiet. There is a Miro Sculpture to look at while getting suntanned.

There is also a sauna and steam room near the pool that guests can use. As in-house guests of The St. Regis Singapore, you’ll get complimentary access to those facilities. I spent about one hour going from the sauna to the steam rooms to the Jacuzzis, and it was super relaxing. This is a great place to unwind after a hard day of shopping and sightseeing (or work if you must!)

TIP: Bring your bathrobe if you want to use the pool and the sauna. They are not provided in the lockers. You need to pass in front of the Italian restaurant to go from the sauna/spa to the pool, so it feels a bit weird without a bathrobe.

St Regis Singapore hotel review - Spa relaxation room

The majority of the guests in the hotel seemed to be business people from all over the world, and St. Regis offers all the business amenities like printing services, business center, and meeting rooms. There were also quite a few families with children, and everyone seemed to be enjoying their stay.

Sustainability at the St. Regis Hotel

When I asked about sustainability, I was told that this is something they are still working on.

It is heartwarming to see that hotel guests are increasingly concerned about sustainability and it becomes a deciding factor in choosing where to stay. I was disappointed to hear that St Regis doesn’t have initiatives in place currently but happy to hear that they are working on it.

So when you stay at St Regis Singapore, do ask them about their plans for sustainability and if possible update us in the comment section below.

Conclusion

The St Regis Singapore is an extremely comfortable and stylish hotel that is great to relax after a busy day in town. It also offers delicious food options. Don’t hesitate to make it your home when visiting Singapore.
