The Best Restaurants in Ubud

Ubud is fast becoming the gastronomic capital of Asia.

This artist town can attract a massive amount of talented chefs from all over the world.

Delighting tourists and locals with amazing flavors. Read on for my take on the best restaurants in Ubud.

My personal list of the best restaurants in Ubud goes from the most casual places to more fancy and trendy ones.

To eat there, you will have to book in advance, especially in the July-August high season, as those places are often fully booked.

Taco Casa restaurant Ubud

Burritos, enchiladas, and quesadillas are kings here.

Taco Casa is home to everything we love about Tex-Mex food, and everything is created from scratch in a minute.

Cheap, cheerful, and free from flavoring or preservatives, Taco Casa is a casual and straightforward affair, and it’s also excellent for families.

Whereas the kiddos tuck into hell Fresh nachos cumulous high with cream, guac, cheese, and beans, adults will relish the Margaritas with a kick. After all, what’s a Mexican dinner without tequila-based to scrub it all down?

Batubara restaurant Ubud

For meat lovers, this is a must-go restaurant in Ubud.

Settled within the city center, hidden off a flip of Pengosekan Road next to Arma Museum. Batubara’s appearance seems like the busy room of an Argentinian family. This might be the best place to eat beef in Bali.

Tip: Check out the Indonesia flap steak. it is one of the cheapest meat on the menu but also the tastier.

Sayan house restaurant Ubud

This Ubud gem is merely 20 minutes from the city center, away from the hustle and bustle, and offers extensive views of the encircling forest that borders the dramatic Sayan Gorge.

Expect fine-casual feeding here with a fantastic fusion of Latin-Japanese preparation.

We’re talking tuna croquettes with wasabi mash, pate Nigiri dish, and tempeh dish tacos. YUM. And FYI, the employees are exceptional too.

This restaurant made it to the list of the best restaurants in Ubud in large part due to its stunning view. Go at sunset time and enjoy one of the most beautiful sunset views in Ubud.

Nusantara Restaurant Ubud

Nusantara is dropped to us by the similar victory cooking team of eating place Locavore. I had to get at least one Indonesian food restaurant in my list of the best restaurants in Ubud.

Eating at Nusantara is all about top-end Indonesian food from all the Indonesian provinces.

It’s as authentic as it is delicious.

With dishes that represent the guts and soul of this vast country, you’ll take a cooking journey like no other.

Merlin’s Magic Restaurant Ubud

Merlin’s Magic is currently a favorite among influencers and Instagrammers, but don’t let that discourage you. The food is actually delicious, and the ambiance is delightful. For a bit of fun and magic, you can ask them to create a menu for you using tarot cards. It is advisable to make your reservation 2 or 3 days in advance due to the restaurant’s typically high demand.

Mozaic Restaurant Ubud

Mozaic restaurant has won numerous awards. We can’t even begin to list all of them.

That says quite a lot about cook Chris Salans’ dynamic menu, which consists of à minute creations that showcase his passion for native ingredients of the highest standard sourced from the ocean and farms across the island.

Mozaic may be a legend within the world of gastronomy and a favorite on the island. It has had ups and downs but is now again on an upward trajectory.  It follows the philosophy of ‘Cuisine du Marché’, which refers to a wedding of seasonal ingredients with contemporary French techniques, each within the cookery and presentation.

All of this is offered in a sublime setting with impeccable standards of service. Mozaic remains one of the best restaurants in Ubud.

Blanco by Mandrif restaurant Ubud

Any Bali-based, self-respectful gourmet can grasp Blanco.

The ten seats are solely an eating place that serves ultra-fine feeding Indonesian cookery in an exceedingly wholly refined setting.

Well, following such extensive gourmet packaging, celebrity cook and owner Mandif Warokka (the same owner as Teatro in Seminyak) expanded this intimate, award-winning restaurant to seat twenty-eight lucky guests.

You’ll wish to order one of every one of these hot dishes.

Working with produce from native farmers, the food is contemporary and made regionally, while the eating menu takes center stage. The food presentation here is extraordinary.

Let’s not forget the drinks! We tend to love the mini cocktail counter at the chef’s tasting table, which shakes and stirs classic cocktails right before your eyes.

Locavore restaurant Ubud ( now NXT)

If you’re lucky enough to get a booking at this über popular Ubud favorite (definitely book a table 1 months before you arrive in Bali), you’ll understand what all the fuss is about.

As the name suggests, Locavore uses solely sustainably sourced ingredients from the island of Bali, even the plates and cutlery, which are created domestically.

There is a choice between the five courses and the seven-course menu. You can also choose a vegetarian menu, which is a feast for the real style of Chef Owners Eelke Plasmeijer and Ray Adriansyah’s cooking genius.

Just in case you didn’t grasp, these guys created history a few years ago at Asia’s fifty Best Restaurants awards by single-handedly representing Dutch East Indies and changing into the sole edifice (ever) to skyrocket up the list by a stunning twenty-seven places.

Locavore recently moved to a new location in Mas Village, and I have yet to try their new offering called NXT

Once you’re done losing your mind over their madly sensible food, move back to Ubud center to their cocktail bar, The Night Rooster, for a nightcap tipple or two.

Syrco Base

Syrco Base is Ubud’s newest culinary addition and the most anticipated. The chef, Syrco Bakker, comes from the Netherlands and was the head chef at Sergio Herman’s Pure C restaurant in Zeeland for 13 years. He earned his first Michelin star within a year, followed by a second star in 2019, and was named Gault&Millau’s Chef of the Year in 2022. His restaurant in Bali is set in a beautiful, spacious garden.

The fixed menu includes 6 courses that are just as delicious to eat as they are beautiful to look at. Syrco guides guests through a culinary adventure in Bali, fusing European dishes with Indonesian influences. He works closely with local suppliers and is passionate about highlighting his network of farmers and producers. It’s a truly amazing dining experience and definitely one of the best restaurants in Ubud.

The beverage pairing offers a variety of options, including beer, wine, and cocktails.

In addition to the restaurant, the bar occasionally hosts special events. On the night I went, they collaborated with Stay Gold Flamingo, the best bar in Singapore. Jerrold Khoo created his best cocktails for us. Add a great DJ playing disco music, and you have the perfect fun way to end a night.

Make sure you go soon before it becomes too well known, as I can already anticipate that it will become harder to get there.

You can read my full review of the Syrco Base experience here.

Room 4 Dessert Restaurant Ubud

Room 4 Dessert in Ubud may be the most fabulous remodeled desert warehouse in the world. Will Goldfarb won the World’s Best Pastry Chef award in 2021.

With cozy tables and seats at the bar. You’ll watch the workers prepare the food ahead of you. World-class expertise is on display. It is fantastic to visualize the difficulty involved in preparing the deserts.

Eating at Room for Dessert is a constantly evolving experience. It currently includes a 15-course dining menu. The first five courses are savory tapas, and the last ten are desserts. You move through the various dining rooms as the diner progresses. You won’t regret it, trust me.

We tend to love the Chocobubbles, which is delineated as a mousse with mum’s cookies! Scarborough pear was our absolute favorite, with numerous textures of fruits, smooth mousse, and cookies. The flavor was superb.

The menu changes 2-3 times each year. Thus, you’ll keep coming until you’ve tried all of them. Then, there’ll most likely be an entirely new menu to choose from!!

Similarly to Locavore, it is recommended that you book ahead, as this is another one of last year’s spherical hits.

this is the latest menu
